Kobler_Quote

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We are overjoyed to hear that Seraina Kobler has just been nominated for the ›Ingeborg Bachmann Prize‹. Her book Valley of Swallows, which is just out, was recommended by ›New Books in German‹ and has received lavish praise by the press.

She wasn't the only one: Esther Schüttpelz' Green Wave received glowing reviews, too. Shelly Kupferberg's Hours Like Days and Daniel Fassbender's Heaven's Gate were also very warmly received.

Bernhard Schlink's books are doing very well, internationally: We have just sold French and Spanish rights of Justice to Gallimard and Anagrama. And we cheered every raving French review for The Late Life.

Lastly, Takis Würger's For Polina is travelling on into the world.

Seraina Kobler nominated for ›Ingeborg Bachmann Prize‹
Seraina Kobler has just been nominated for the ›Ingeborg Bachmann Prize‹. She will read as one of 14 select authors from Austria, Germany and Switzerland in Klagenfurt during the 50th ›Days of German Language Literature‹ (24–28 June 2026).

We have just published Seraina Kobler's climate fiction novel Valley of Swallows, which is featured by ›New Books in German‹.

»Linguistically, the book is even-tempered and coherent. […] This endeavour to write a book about the human’s place in an over-engineered world turned out successful.«

Peer Teuwsen / NZZ am Sonntag, Zurich

The eminent German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung joins the choir and featured the book with a comprehensive, laudatory review, from which it is a delight to quote:

»In his lucid language in which his readers recognise the serene tone of his novels, Schlink has written a manual to thinking for oneself.«

Achim Brosch / Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

Fantastic press for Esther Schüttpelz' Green Wave

Here are the latest press quotes:

»What remains, is uncertainty. And that is an absolute strength of the novel.«

Leonore Kogler / Süddeutsche Zeitung, Munich

»Esther Schüttpelz enriches this emotional journey with razor sharp, witty observations. […] The suspense holds until the very last page.«

Tim Felchlin / ORF Radio Ö1 "Ex libris"

»Schüttpelz has a distinctive, immediate voice that unfolds this story of two women’s friendship in meticulous detail, making you feel present yet not directly involved.«

Achim Lettmann / Westfälischer Anzeiger, Hamm

Even more jubilant press for Shelly Kupferberg's Hours Like Days

Gerrit Bartels / Der Tagesspiegel, Berlin

Gallimard's edition of Bernhard Schlink's The Late Life praised by the press

»With this story about a man’s final weeks, we’re spellbound in these suspended days – harrowing, because they are his last, but also because they reveal secrets, lies, and unexpected impulses.«

Le Monde des Livres, Paris

»Schlink’s novel is to be ranked next to Julian Barnes’. It sounds like a goodbye, with something uncannily sweet about it.«

Le Figaro littéraire, Paris

»The Late Life resembles [The Reader]: the same sobriety in the elegant phrasing, the same paradoxical gravity in the thread of a story that’s peaceful and tormented at the same time.«

Le Nouvel Obs, Paris

»Honed to the essentials and free of sentimentality, you devour The Late Life — heart clenched, eyes brimming.«

Florence Colombani / Le Point, Paris
